We make new stock from the salt

The title and influence for the show is taken from Sylvia Plath’s poem, The Applicant. The exhibition exposes the stripped back nature of the feminine identity through an installation created in response to the architectural space of Fabriksg. 48. It spans both the gallery and the artist’s studio creeping into all corners of the interior.

With recurring underlying themes throughout Hannah's work referencing control and madness, this show in particular looks at the portrayal of the 50’s housewife and the contemporary ‘Vogue’ model and the high expectations both of these had and have on the female identity. It questions woman’s portrayal of themselves in society and also references the artist’s own experience of living with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

The installation is created from butcher’s string, both knitted and crocheted, in what could be described as a manic overload of quantity.
